The triumph of the Italian opera took place over 350 years ago. This was when this young genre achieved perfection in conveying human feelings and emotions by means of the most expressive instrument – the human voice. It captured the hearts of people of all ages, nations, religions, and social standing. The beautiful singing – bel canto – conquered the world in every sense of the world. Opera changed throughout centuries; coming in touch with other arts, it became more deep, complex, and full of conflict in the manner of contemporary humans. But in any epoch, the magic beauty of the human voice remains the guiding light for opera music; it attracts novices and experts, common people and connoisseurs; it heals human hearts and makes animosity, confrontation and conflicts of the world subside at least for some time.
The project Opera for Peace – Leading Young Voices of the World aims at bringing together leading singers of the young generation. Today, it only starts its work. But its organizers and participants believe that art will help humankind to make a major step in the name of the protection of life, culture, and civilization.
