During the Sochi festival, beginning singers will be able to receive lessons on higher professional skill from great figures in the world’s opera art.
This is the second year that the Vocal Department has been traditionally led by Dmitry Vdovin, Director of the Youth Program of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, Honored Artist of Russia, and Professor at the Moscow Academy of Choral Art. For the first time, Sebastian Schwarz, one of the top opera directors in Europe, will be participating in the Department’s work. Open lessons will be given by the following personalities: Neil Shicoff (an outstanding opera singer, soloist of the Vienna State Opera, head of the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg from 2015−16) and Brenda Hurley (Director of the International Opera Studio in Zurich and Professor at the Royal Irish Academy of Music). Scottish director Paul Karan, whose performances are regularly staged at the world’s largest opera houses, will deliver master classes in acting and directing.
On February 24, a gala concert by the Vocal Department of the International Music Academy will be held at the Organ and Chamber Music Hall.
